YTOC now has most of the Back Issues of Yoga Journal from 1990-2001!

We can share back issues with you. For example, maybe you want an in-depth analysis of an asana or a sytle of yoga you are researching. We can help you locate that issue. You can use this service just as you use the library for renting out video and audio tapes.

  • Yoga Journal Videotape: Yoga for Strengthwith Rodney Yee 60 minute videotape (2) 30 minute practice sessions. Aerobic yoga to build power and stamina, featuring inverted poses, standing balances and arm balances.
  • Yoga Journal Videotape: Yoga for Energy with Rodney Yee 60 minute videotape (5) practice sessions. 10 minutes of stretches 8 minutes of flow series, standing poses 14 minutes of Sun Salutation 10 minutes of forward bends and hip openers 8 minutes of deep relaxation

  • The Feminine Unfolding, An Exploration of Yoga with Angela Farmer. 48 minute videotape. This is not an instructional video. This video consists of interviews, workshop highlights and individual yoga flows. Emphasis is on moving from the belly and back-body with breathing to support movement, expression and growth.
  • Yoga Zone--Power Yoga for Strength and Endurance for all levels with Alan Finger and Lisa Bernett. 55 minute videotape emphasizes breathing techniques and strength building yoga postures.
  • Kripula Yoga—Partners with Todd Norian and Ann Greene. 60 minute videotape with 44 “doubles” yoga postures with warm-ups, standing and balancing postures, backbends, forward bends, twists, inversions, meditations and deep relaxation.

Video Resources:

  • Kripalu Yoga Dynamic with Stephen Cope, video This is a recent video presenting "a classical series of 30 asanas including warmups, standing postures, salutations, balancing postures, floor postures, twists, and inversions, ending with a meditation-in-motion posture flow and relaxation". A poster of the posture sequence is also included.
  • Yoga for Your Back, Svaroopa Yoga with Rama. This video presents two sessions focused on strengthening the back. This is generally quite basic material but interesting in presenting postures for strengthening and increasing spinal flexibility. This is a beautifully produced video with simple descriptions & appealing presentations of the postures.
  • Chakra Yoga with Gurutej Kaur, video of a 72 minute Kundalini Yoga program. The jacket states, "With master instructor Gurutej Kaur, you will learn sixteen asanas - a complete cycle of dynamic moving practices and sacred chants to release blockages in each of your body's energy centers".
  • Advanced Yoga Sessions with Vasanthi Bhat. This video presents two 25-minute fairly fast paced hatha yoga sessions, which include a wide spectrum of poses.
  • Yoga for Radiant Health & Well Being - at home with Yogi Hari, 2 videos:
    1. Intermediate Level 2 - 90 minutes
    2. Advanced Level 1 - 120 minutes
    These are beautifully presented yoga sessions with clear descriptions of postures and guide for fairly advanced practice. These videos present similar practices, although the Advanced one is expanded and quite challenging.
  • Yogaia Wave - Medicine: An Introduction to Evolutionary Movement with Se'a Criss & Robert Friedman, MD. This video presents wave-like posture sequences intended to simulate cranio-sacral rhythm and foster transformation.

Audio Resources:

  • The Bhagavad-Gita, read by Jacob Needleman, 2 audiotapes (2 1/2 hours) This is an interesting format to support contemplation on this sacred material. This presentation is based on a contemporary translation by Barbara Stoler Miller.
  • Classical Yoga, Meditation: How to dive beyond the mind to the self within, Mukunda Tom Stiles, audiotape. Available at the April weekend workshop with Mukunda. This tape provides guidance from a western master on techniques to deepen meditation practice.
  • Refreshing Hatha Yoga with Roseanna Freshette. This audio cassette presents two 45 minute clearly guided hatha yoga sessions. These are basic posture sequences. Roseanna is a YTOC member and a Denver based Yoga teacher.
  • The Principles and Practice of Ujjayi Pranayama with Richard C. Miller, 3 audiocassettes. This material includes fairly extended discussions on the theory and practice of Pranayama and Ujjayi breathing. Tape 1 is the Practice of Ujjayi Pranayama, Tape 2 is the Practice of Anuloma Ujjayi and Tape 3 is the Practice of Praniloma Ujjayi. These are excellent guides to deepening practice.
  • Sadhana, the Daily Practice of Yoga, Volume 1 by Sudhakar Ken McCrae. This CD presents 15 tracks and is designed to allow the user to develop their own daily Sadhana practice by selecting specific track sequences to meet individual needs. This is clearly presented material and is an interesting concept to support individual practice. Thirteen suggested sequences are presented.
