Yoga for Peace
by Rodney Valdez

I was deep in the study of the Yamas and Niyamas when I originally
received an e-mail about the Yoga for Peace initiative
(www.yogaforpeace.info). The Yamas are the ethical guidelines for
the yogis specifically pertaining to his/her relationship with others
in society, outer environment, and Nature. The Yama that really
spoke volumes to me was Ahimsa: showing loving kindness to others,
not obstructing the flow of Nature, compassion, mercy, gentleness and Non-violence. I felt strongly that Yoga for Peace was a way to
emulate Ahimsa today in a society that found it easier to dislike
rather than to love. I was sad to find that it was a short term
project, so a few months after it ended I e-mailed David-Dorian Ross
asking if I could re-launch the project.

With the Blessing of David-Dorian and the Wellness Evolution, July
4th saw the re-launch of the Yoga for Peace initiative and web
site. Participation has fluctuated -at times it has been slow, and
at times down right amazing. There are so many people who want peace
in this world, some practice meditation, some offer prayer, while
others practice yoga. I believe that if I can bring peace to myself,
then the effulgence of peace will encompass others.

Thanks,
Rodney Valdez
