YTOC
President Karin Bustamante

Dear YTOC Members:

There may be snow on the ground but there is Spring in the air or so I felt as the sun was warming my skin. The days are growing just a wee bit longer, inviting us to start exploring the outdoors. And a question buzzes in my head, "Is Yoga the practice of a few sequenced postures only?" It's not a real question because I know that Yoga is unique unto each individual.

The Vijñana Bhairava: The Yoga of Delight, Wonder and Astonishment, describes 112 different practices to know Yourself truly. At the root of this practice we call Yoga is a sense that we are merging with something bigger and grander than our every day one-sided point of view. At YTOC we welcome expressions of Yoga that are unique. Granted this makes answering, "What is yoga?" a bit more challenging.

Where to start my lecture? Should I start with the health benefits of postures or the sense of peace I achieve by working with my body lovingly? Are they interested in meditation, philosophy or perhaps even Yoga Nidra? Knowing that, explaining Yoga is as simple as describing the feeling of warmth of the sun on your skin.

Namaste,
Karin Bustamante, RYT

"Community. Somewhere, there are people whom we speak with passion without having the words catch in our throats. Somewhere a circle of hands will open to receive us, eyes will light up as we enter, voices will celebrate us whenever we come into our own power. Community means strength that joins our strength to do the work that needs to be done. Arms to hold us when we falter. A circle of healing. A circle of friends. Someplace where we can be free." - Starhawk

Community can be "an intense crucible for personal growth. For others, it is primarily a place to pioneer their dreams." - Corrine McLaughlin and Gordon Davidson

(www.yogaforpeace.info). The Yamas are the ethical guidelines for the yogis specifically pertaining to his/her relationship with others in society, outer environment, and Nature.
